I wanted to compile some thoughts on my recent visits, with customers, vendors and friends over the past few weeks along with some other observations:
- The guy who works the front desk at my gym was asleep all three days I visited the facility. Today he had on a hooded sweatshirt on backwards covering his face while sitting upright. I wrote about the same guy months ago (http://tinyurl.com/yc4lojf) and he is still there!
- I went to a presentation by a local bank. The president said we had a morale obligation to pay our debts (mortgage, credit cards etc). This is from someone who got bailout money. He didn’t talk about how the bank was pulling credit lines, reducing loans for customers who were never late on a payment or delinquent. Moral obligation?
- I was not in favor of bailouts but when we have a line around the block downtown today, so people can get help on their mortgage…that is a HUGE problem. Who is bailing out ‘Joe Six-pack’…and what’s worse is he is providing the tax dollars to help others…who made worse decisions than him.
- I feel the local job market is about the worst it can get…does not look like any relief anytime soon. I predict that when the economy improves, companies will temp workers to make sure it will be sustained.
- Most networking events I attend are full of people using used car selling tactics that run off most of the good people. If you are doing this? STOP
- Most customers I speak with are pretty down about their business in general, what will be the catalyst to change our opinion?
As always, I welcome your comments either good or bad. If you have questions or concerns regarding interviewing tips, see our website and YouTube site for advice. You can see both at http://www.momentumtrans.com/
Banks don’t care about the past and all the money they have made on you, the borrower. They only care about profits and balance sheets. I see so many great credit users every day that have 820 FICO scores that have recently been ruined by these banks cutting their credit lines. They need to remember how they were tripping over one another to hand that same consumer their low interest rate money not too long ago. Now they act like they wouldn’t talk to them on a bet. It’s phony and completely one sided. Can’t wait until they come knocking again. And you’re right Mike, they are hoarding the bailout money! I wish I had a dollar for every dollar that they have wasted on bureaucratic salaries in these banks. Most of the people I talk with where I bank are in India. “I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take it anymore!”
Thanks to share your wonderful thoughts with that article about banking, economy jobs and how to behave in that situation.
Thanks for reading!!
Mike
Mike – Bravo – thanks for saying it. I just heard the GM of the new Cancer center on the west side talk about their facility. Great presentation — and the one thing that stuck out in my mind? They had 250 positions to fill. Are you ready for this? They had 37,000 applicants. Yes. Thirty Seven Thousand.
Now – that makes one think — if you have a job, and you are not being useful, productive, helpful, positive, and committed to that job – you should not get to keep it. If there are 37,000 people out there who would be happy to do your job, why in heavens name are you NOT being a productive member of the team? It makes me crazy.
And, note to Bankers — the economy WILL come back. And we WILL Remember. In the early 80’s, United Airlines ruled the skies to Hawaii. There was a strike and then subsequent huge fare increases for the Hawaii population. To this day UAL struggles with the Hawaii market. More than 20 years later there are people who REMEMBER.
Due to surgery and a huge hospital bill, I’ve had to go the mortgage modification route. I’ve been fortunate to have Saxon mortgage as my lender. They took over after Taylor Bean tanked, Thank God. TBW was useless in working on the mod. Saxon has been helpful, cheerful, kind, compassionate, clear, and fast. I will remember. I’ll be back on my feet soon. I will get this handled and someday buy more property. Saxon will be my choice. That’s how the world works. (No, I don’t work for them, nor do they know I’m saying this. I just want all vendors to know that people notice AND we blog.)
Mike – I love your blog. Great work!
